Monsonia camdeboensis (Karoo Candle Bush) is a low-growing shrub that grows up to 12 inches (30 cm) tall, usually broader than tall. Most branches grow roughly parallel to the ground. The stems have waxy grayish-orange bark and long grey spines. The small fleshy leaves are deciduous during winter when plants are exposed to severe frost. When present, the leaves are folded upwards slightly and have an entire purplish margin. The pale yellow open-faced flowers appear during mid-summer.
