Hypoxis hemerocallidea is a tuberous perennial with strap-like leaves and yellow star-shaped flowers. The leaves of this bulb are arranged in a triangular fashion and the lower surface of the leaves is densely hairy with white hairs. Leaves appear above ground in spring before the flowers. The flowers are like bright yellow stars rising through the centre. Flowers from very early spring to late summer. Plant in full sun in well-drained, compost rich soil. A very important medicinal plant.

Hypoxis hemerocallidea was common until recently in the grassland of the eastern summer rainfall region.

Interplant with grasses to create a natural feel.

Exposure : bright and sunny.
Temperature : minimum of 5°c (summer growth)
Soil : not too rich but mainly well drained. You can use a mix of pumice with your habitual potting soil
winter resting with loose of leaves in autumn
