This member of the Geraniaceae family was given this name by Rune Bertil Nordenstam in 1987. It is found in Koekenkaap; Vanrhynsorp in central western South Africa, growing in a well drained quartzite gravel with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to 3,5 centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to five centimetres in height,. The inflorescence can reach 20 centimetres with cream to yellow flowers with red markings.
It is named in honour of Karl Heinz Rechinger (1906-1998), Austrian botanist and friend of the author, for his 80 years birthday.
