This species is usually a tree, sometimes a shrub, with gray bark, up to 12 m high. It is a frequent element of the tropical dry forest. It grows from sea level up to 2,200 m altitude. It produces an abundant, transparent and pleasant-smelling resin, called copal. The leaves are odd-pinnate with 9-11 hairless leaflets, glossy dark green above and yellow green below. Its small white flowers are grouped in the shape of a cluster. The fruits, also arranged in clusters, are red1. It flowers in May and June but remains leafless between November and May.
One year old seedling. About 7 cm. Very rare.
