Cotyledon orbiculata is a succulent evergreen shrub. Its fragile stems measure 50 to 120 cm high and 80 to 150 cm wide and are often very branched.
It would be one of the oldest cultivated succulent plants (introduced in 1690 by M. Bentick). It still retains a place in most collections especially for its beautiful powdery white leaves surrounded by a burgundy margin and its durable flowering. The leaves, stems and flowers are covered with a waxy bloom.
It is a very variable species of which many forms have been described. The different varieties and forms listed are mainly distinguished by the shape of their foliage.
