This member of the Periplocaceae* family was described by Friedrich Richard Rudolf Schlechter & Alfred Barton Rendle in 1896. It is found in Kenya and Tanzania, where it grows in well-drained soil with some water and sun. The caudex can reach 25 centimeters, the vines from four to six meters.
* According to the latest taxonomic system (APG IV 2016), the Periplocaceae is now part of the Apocynaceae. Green flowers.
